| Traffic is good but only if your traffic does what you want it to ... Your website really should have 2 main purposes:
The most important function is to get visitors to signup for your newsletter. The second function is to produce sales.
First, you should create a page designed to make visitors drool over your offer. Your free offer. Don't try to sell them anything just persuade them to register, sign up or subscribe for more information.
You may use a variety of techniques ...
Offer testimonials, offer a sample issue of your newsletter and tell them to signup after they've read it, offer a free ebook, offer a free list of resources that they might be interested in for signing up, use a powerful picture, etc.
Secondly, you should know exactly how many visitors come to your website from each promotion you launch. If you are using paid or free advertising you really should track each promotion. Once you know which sources are producing visitors you know where to advertise again and more importantly where not to.
Also since you are tracking how many visitors each campaign brings in you can calculate which provides the most signups.
Thirdly, you should set up a rotator. A rotator will allow you to test multiple versions of a similar page from one address. You can send 100 visitors to one address and when they reach the rotator will send them to different versions of your page.
One page may have a different headline, more testimonials, a different ebook offer, etc. The purpose of have having more than one version is to find out which page converts the most visitors into subscribers. Start with 2 or 3 similar offers and see which does the best over a few weeks and then keep the best. Try to beat the best continually ... you conversion will grow from 1% to 2% to 5%, etc.
Now you should know which advertising source and which method of promotion is bringing the most traffic as well as have a page that is converting a large percentage to subscribers. Now all you've got to do is build trust and relationships with your subscribers, ask them what they want and sell it to them.
In summary:
- Create a page that gets visitors to subscribe
- Track your promotion campaigns to find out which source provides the most visitors and ultimately which produced the most signups.
- Use split testing to track which page is converting the most visitors
- Convert prospects to customers by building relationships with them and then send them to your sales-page to buy your products.
- Repeat all the steps for a constant flow of new subscribers.
